Star Wars-regissør J.J Abrams donerer 10 millioner dollar til Black Lives Matter og flere antirasistiske organisasjoner

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" og "The Rise of Skywalker"-Regissør J.J Abrams og produksjonsselskapet hans, Bad Robot, har lovet å donere 10 millioner dollar til Black Lives Matter og andre antirasistiske organisasjoner. Det skriver flere amerikanske medier, blant annet Screenrant.

Abrams grunnla Bad Robot i 2001, og selskapet har siden produsert en rekke storfilmer som reeboten av "Star Trek"-serien, "Super 8", "Mission Impossible - Fallout" - og ikke minst fjorårets "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker". Bad Robot har også bidratt på velkjente serier som "Lost" og "Westworld". HBO Max-serien "Justice League Dark", er neste prosjekt ut.

Den siste uka har drapet på George Floyd skapt stor uro i USA. 46-åringen døde av asfyksi, som følge av å ha blitt lagt i bakken av en hvit politimann som presset kneet mot nakken hans i nesten ni minutter. Hendelsen har ført til demonstrasjoner og heftige opptøyer over hele landet - og raskt, også flere steder i verden. En rekke kjendiser, som Beyoncé, Michelle Obama og Rihanna, har benyttet platformene sine til uttale seg om situasjonen, og flere selskaper og merkevarer har ytret at de står sammen med demonstrantene og Black Lives Matter-bevegelsen.

Blant disse finner vi Abram og Bad Robot, som via sosiale medier nylig annonserte at de ønsker å donere ti millioner dollar til ulike organisasjoner. Se Bad Robots Instagram-post og uttalelse i sin helhet under:

In this fragile time, words matter, listening is critical and investment is required.

The centuries long neglect and abuse of our Black brothers and sisters can only be addressed by scalable investment. A massive and thoughtful overhaul of tax policy, one that effectively meets the needs of the many in this country, and not just the few, is long overdue.

Corporate and private philanthropy can never achieve the impact needed to address these systemic inequities, but companies and individuals who are able must do what we can until our political leaders lead.
